People who drink coffee, even with sugar, have a lower risk of dying prematurely, according to a study

People who drink coffee, with or without sugar, appear to have a lower risk of dying prematurely, according to a new Chinese research. Those who consume 2.5 to 4.5 coffees a day without sugar have the greatest benefit, who on average have a 29% lower risk of death than those who do not drink coffee at all.

Previous studies have found evidence that coffee can be good for health, reducing the risk of various diseases, such as liver, cancer, dementia and more. New research supports this view, as it shows that moderate consumption of coffee, even with sugar, reduces the risk of premature death, regardless of the type of coffee (brewed, instant, decaffeinated, etc.).

The researchers, who published the study in the Annals of Internal Medicine, analyzed data from 171,616 people with a mean age of 56 years without cardiovascular disease or cancer. The study was conducted over a seven-year period, during which 3,177 people died.

It was found that, compared to those who never drank coffee, those who drank coffee without sugar or other sweetener had the lowest risk of death in the following years. Those who put sugar in their coffee and drank 1.5 to 3.5 coffees a day had a lower risk, although smaller.

Most of the participants in the research, however, put only a teaspoon of sugar, so it is not clear to what extent there is a benefit for those who drink very sweet coffee. So, according to researchers, it is wiser to drink your coffee without a lot of sugar.
