Researchers at King’s College and University College London (UCL), led by Dr Elan Thompson and Dylan Williams, published in the journal Nature Communications, analyzed data from 6,907 people with Covid-19.
The persistent symptoms of the so-called long Covid-19which last for months, are most often on womenin people aged 50 to 60 and in those who had generally poor health before the pandemic, shows a new British scientific research.
Long Covid-19, also known as post-Covid syndrome, is thought to occur when in a person with coronavirus disease, at least one symptom persists for more than a month after the initial acute infection.
The researchers at Royal College (King’s) and University College London (UCL), led by Dr Elan Thompson and Dylan Williams, published in the journal Nature Communications, analyzed data on 6,907 people with Covid-19 (based on ten separate samples surveys), as well as electronic health records for the 1.1 million people diagnosed with the same disease.
Symptoms for more than 12 weeks were found to indicate – depending on the sample – 8% to 17% of people, with 1.2% to 4.8% of them experiencing severe symptoms. THE probability of long Covid-19 growing up to the age of 70 years. Female gender, pre-epidemic poor physical or mental health, obesity and asthma have been found to be increased risk factors for long-term Covid-19.
