There was an increase of 88% compared to the average price of last Tuesday
The tendency of concentration of the SARS-CoV-2 viral load in the municipal waste of Thessaloniki remains strongly increasing, based on the latest measurements for the research, conducted by the Sewage Epidemiology Team of AUTh with EYATH, in collaboration with the Region of Central Macedonia and within the National Network of EODY.
As shown in the diagrams presented by from mid-June onwards the viral load of sewage increases daily, while the recent measurements of the total viral load and strains ΒΑ.4 and ΒΑ.5 respectively, show their complete dominance.
Specifically, in the samples taken daily at the entrance of the Thessaloniki wastewater treatment plant, regarding the rationalized values of relative viral load secretion, the average value of the two most recent measurements, ie Tuesday 28/06/2022 and Wednesday 29/06/2022 is:
Marginally increased by 18% in relation to the average value of the two immediately preceding measurements of Sunday 26/06/2022 and Monday 27/06/2022.
-Increased by 88% compared to the average price of the previous Tuesday 21/06/2022 and Wednesday 22/06/2022.
“The average weekly increase in viral load -from Wednesday to Wednesday- amounts to 110%, ie we observe a doubling per week. The emergence of BA.4 and BA.5 continues to evolve at the same rate, as their viral load continues to steadily double every 6 days. “We also see that now the data of the epidemiological surveillance of the pandemic, the daily new laboratory confirmed cases of the disease, the percentage of positivity in rapid tests, are identical with the picture we have been analyzing for at least two weeks in the sewage,” he told APE-MPE the rector of AUTh and scientifically responsible for the research project.
“There is no question of imposing any self-protection measures, because how we will be careful, how we will not be exposed to the virus, is something we all know,” he added.
