His report in detail EODY for the cases of the last week:

From the beginning of the 2022 period, until 20/09/2022 (13.00), a total of two hundred and thirty-five (235) domestic cases of West Nile virus infection have been diagnosed in Greece, of which one hundred and fifty-two (152) presented with CNS manifestations (CNS, encephalitis and/or meningitis and/or acute flaccid paralysis) and eighty-three (83) had mild manifestations (eg febrile illness)/no CNS manifestations.

The median age of patients with CNS manifestations is 73 years (range: 14 – 96 years). It is worth noting that according to the results of a seroepidemiological study conducted in 2010, for each case of West Nile virus infection with CNS involvement, there are approximately 140 people infected with the virus (with mild symptoms or asymptomatic).

In addition, from the surveillance system of WNV infection in equines carried out by the Ministry of Rural Development and Food, in the period 2022, until 20/09/2022, three cases of recent West Nile virus infection in equines have been recorded, of which one in a settlement of the Metropolitan Unity of Thessaloniki and two in a settlement of the P.E. Halkidiki. The record of equids newly infected with West Nile virus suggests circulation of the virus in these areas as well.
