The total number of laboratory-confirmed cases of monkeypox (monkeypox) since the beginning of the registration amounts to 72.

The data presented in the EODY report concern the laboratory-confirmed cases of monkeypox virus infection in Greece, based on the data declared to the EODY and recorded until September 22, 2022.

It is noted that the recorded laboratory-confirmed cases have already recovered or are recovering in a generally good clinical condition.

Monkeypox is a viral infection first recognized in 1958. Since then, it has been occurring in tropical areas of West and Central Africa. It is transmitted through contact with wild animals and from human to human through close physical contact.

In May 2022, an increased number of monkeypox cases were recorded in non-endemic countries.

In total, in Europe, until September 20, 2022, 24,256 cases of the disease were recorded in 44 different countries.
