Papaevangelou: The cases where they did not take a third dose increased – Those over 50 to hurry

by

“Bell” for the immediate administration of the third dose to adults over 50 years old rang the professor of Pediatric Infectious Diseases and member of the Committee of Experts Vana Papaevangelou during the briefing on the coronavirus, explaining that in areas where citizens seem to have it , the cases increased.

The peripheral units that show low vaccination coverage, especially in adults over 60, are those with the highest number of new cases, new hospitalizations, intubation and deaths.

“A typical example is Pella,” he said, explaining that despite the fact that the cases have decreased significantly (About 30% compared to the previous week) there is an increase in hospitalizations.

“It is clear that the delay in the administration of the third dose in some peripheral units of the country had as a direct result the increase of cases in adults 50-60 years”, he summed up, emphasizing how important it is for these ages to rush immediately for its administration Christmas and with the existing fear of the prevalence of the Omicron variant.

The pandemic in Greece is showing a clear recession for the second consecutive week as the average seven-day cycle has dropped to less than 6,000 new cases per day and the median age of new cases remains stable at 37 years.

An increase of new cases is observed mainly in Evritania, Lassithi, Argolida, West Attica.

Apart from the number of new cases, the positivity of the laboratory tests carried out in the last week shows a clear decrease, with the seven-day rolling average decreasing to 1.55%.

At the same time, a decrease of 2.8% is noted in the positivity that results from the targeted open sampling organized massively by EODY, while at the beginning of November it had reached 4%.

Higher positivity is recorded in the regional units of Evros, Evritania, Grevena, Kozani, Thessaloniki and Kilkis.
Finally, the message from the wastewater analysis data is positive as the viral load seems to be decreasing throughout the country.

In any case, Ms. Papaevangelou stressed that there is no room for complacency as the epidemiological burden in the country remains very high, with active cases in the territory exceeding 50 thousand people.

“Consequently the virus is among us, in every corner of the country and the risk of our being exposed to it remains high. “The national health system continues to be under significant pressure due to the large number of patients being treated in the territory,” he said, adding that they are estimated at 4,800.
However, according to the recent weekly analysis of EODY for the week, there was a clear decrease in new imports for the first time after 8 weeks of continuous increase.

The average number of new imports in the last seven days is 427 per day.
Three out of four patients who need to be admitted to the hospital are over 55 years old, while the number of children-adolescents who are hospitalized is consistently low. (It is 1.17% of hospitalized patients.)

The intubations remain stable at around 700. Despite the increase in available single beds and ICUs, occupancy in the territory is estimated at 67% in single beds and 80% in COVID ICUs.

Northern Greece, however, is constantly at a fullness that reaches 100% in the ICU.

With the current epidemiological data, the IT, taking into account and hard indicators of the pandemic is 0.96%.

Based on this, it is estimated that in December we will have about 650 to 700 intubated patients.
