The Municipal Secretary of Health of São Paulo announced that, starting next Monday (21), it will start a new campaign to raise awareness among the population about the importance of wearing masks against Covid-19.

The protection item will be distributed at bus terminals, where vaccination tents will also be installed.

The measure was taken by the prefecture due to the increase in cases of the disease in recent weeks. During the campaign 1 million masks will be distributed.

“In our daily monitoring, we recorded an increase in the number of Covid cases, but the number of ICU admissions was lower in proportion to those registered in hospitalization, as occurred in past periods. Today we have 178 cases in total, 34 in ICU , with 83% of people over 60 years of age”, explains Mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB).

The prefecture reinforces the recommendation and importance of using protective masks in all environments, closed and with agglomerations, such as buses, subways, trains, app cars and at the respective stations.

The Municipal Secretary of Health says that it does not foresee the return of the mandatory use of masks for the general population – the folder only guides people to use the protection.

“Such a recommendation, which recently applied only to people with respiratory symptoms and those with compromised immunity, is now valid for all citizens”, explains the secretariat.

In São Paulo, vaccination is available at all UBSs (Basic Health Units), from Monday to Friday, and on Saturdays, at the AMAs (Outpatient Medical Assistance) / integrated UBSs, from 7am to 7pm.

The prefecture warns of the importance of vaccination against Covid-19, in particular with regard to booster doses.

“In the city of São Paulo, 85% of people took the first booster dose or the third dose. Already 55% received the second booster dose or the fourth dose. It is very important that those who have not yet completed the immunization cycle , go to one of the 470 UBS to get the vaccine against Covid. Vaccination shows that it is effective in avoiding hospitalizations in ICUs “, says the mayor.

This week also began vaccinating babies aged 6 months to 2 years, 11 months and 29 days with comorbidities, immunosuppressed, permanently disabled and indigenous. according to Sheet published, the demand for immunization was low on the first day of the campaign, with 699 children from the target audience vaccinated at UBSs in the capital of São Paulo. The city received 34,840 doses of the pediatric Pfizer vaccine.
