The clinical spectrum of the disease is complemented by tremors, nystagmus, dysarthria, diabetes mellitus, thyroiditis, seizures and nervous system disorders, leading to hyperpyrexia (the condition in which the human body temperature exceeds 40°C) and sudden death .
Stiff person syndrome (SPS) affects only one or two people in a million. A diagnosis of this very rare condition can leave patients and their families with many questions and few answers.
