“The biggest problem is the peak of respiratory infections and the lack of medicines” the minister argued

“In China, the “Zero Covid” policy was a failure and the country is in the same phase as it was a year ago,” said Health Minister Thanos Pleuris speaking to SKAI 100.3, explaining that the outbreak observed in China is due to the fact that the population has no natural immunity.

As the minister said, the WHO is “ringing” the alarm bell because China’s scientific evidence is not reliable. “We fear that the outbreak of cases will lead to new mutations. Countries with closer ties to China face greater risk. However, the decisions we will take will be in line with Europe”, said Mr. Pleuris while mentioning that if it is deemed imperative, we will follow the measures that will be decided.

He clarified, however, that “great caution is required” as “no one wants to back down”

Regarding the lack of medicines, the Minister of Health noted that this fact is due to the low global production alongside the huge demand due to the outbreak of viruses.

In Greece, Mr. Plevris noted, there is the possibility of producing generics which is increasing to cover the growing needs.

He also reiterated that pharmacies that export drugs that are in short supply in Greece are threatened with “lockdown”. Already as he said, two pharmacies have been permanently closed and another five are being checked.
