“There are no serious shortages in Greek hospitals and pharmacies”
The Minister of Health, Thanos Pleuris, was in the studio of SKAI, who mentioned the shortages that exist in medicines.
As he pointed out, deficiencies exist in specific preparations, for which there are no generics.
At the same time, he emphasized that compared to other countries, Greece is in a much better position as our country has its own pharmaceutical warehouses that produce preparations from generics, something that does not exist in other countries.
He also noted that doctors will now, in addition to brand-name drugs, also prescribe substitutes so that parents know that there is another solution besides the brand-name drug.
Mr. Pleuris also added that there are no serious shortages in Greek hospitals and pharmacies. “The problem is found in brand formulations and a few pediatric ones, but the situation will be normalized.”
Regarding the closed pharmaceutical warehouses, he noted that this was done due to an inventory at the end of the year, while he noted that there is a difficulty in masks, occlusives and syrups for which we do not have raw materials.
Finally, Mr. Pleuris noted that there will be an increase in very cheap medicines produced in Greece so that their production can continue, because otherwise the pharmacies will withdraw them and the only solution that citizens will have will be to switch to brand names that they are much more expensive.
