A European task force for health is created – Greece is a founding member

by

Greece has been selected as one of the six member states of the new European Health Task Force (EUHTF)

The recently published amended mandate of the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) includes the creation of the European Health Task Force (EUHTF), to be established and coordinated by the ECDC in cooperation with the European Commission, the EU Member States , of the EEA (European Economic Area) and international organizations.

The six Member States selected are:

Spain (Bernardo Guzmán Herrador)

Germany (Claudia Siffczyk)

Norway (Emily MacDonald)

Finland (Otto Helve)

Portugal (Paula Vasconcelos)

Greece (Theoklis Zaoutis)

ECDC is setting up a working group to support and advise on the establishment of the EUHTF’s terms of reference, operation and working conditions.

The EUHTF will provide support to EU/EEA Member States, partner countries and international organizations for early preparedness and emergency response during epidemics and crises.

After a nomination and voting process in which all EU member states participated, Greece (through the National Public Health Organization and the president Prof. Theoklis Zaoutis), was chosen to join the six member states of the Working Group (EUHTF). The European Health Task Force (EUHTF) was established following the successful launch of the European Health Summit last December 2020. The European Health Task Force is a ‘toolbox’ comprising industry leaders, policy makers and experts . Its purpose is to promote EU health policy through high-level meetings with working groups as well as public consultations. The aim is not only to create a larger healthcare network, but also to be able to guide the policy-making process at European level.
