With a confirmed case of the omicron variant and 94 others under investigation, the City of Rio decided to set up three medical centers on Avenida Atlântica, in front of Copacabana beach, where locals and tourists line up to get vaccinated on the last day of 2021,

This was the case of Professor Anderson Eugênio, 44, who took the day to take a booster dose before traveling.

“It may be that after these parties some problems will arise due to the issue of the new variant and the spread of the virus, which should increase,” he says, adding that the increase in cases being registered in some European countries should be repeated in Brazil. “But I hope there is no increase in the number of deaths.”

The city’s city government actually reported that the number of positive tests for Covid-19 has gone from 0.7% to 5.5% in the last week.

“In our interactions, we start to hear that there is someone with Covid. What we feel listening to people around us, we also start to notice in the testing. It seems inevitable. We must have a significant increase in Covid cases”, said this Thursday (30) Mayor Eduardo Paes (PSD).

In São Paulo, admissions for Covid-19 have risen again, surpassing the 1,000 hospitalizations this week. The occupation of ICU beds in the metropolitan region reached 30%, the highest level since the beginning of November.

Acupuncturist Max Carvalho, 48, says that vaccination is essential to prevent the pandemic from intensifying again in the city of Rio, as it did in August. At the time, Paes even said that the capital was the epicenter of the pandemic in Brazil.

“I am optimistic about the pandemic next year. With the elections, I hope that a government that is more serious and that can bring more dignity to the population can come,” says the man, who was in line for vaccinations. the booster dose.

“It is essential that we are immunized to stop the pandemic. That we can at least have more freedom and one day be able to stop wearing this mask.”

Since October, the protection item is no longer mandatory in open and uncrowded places in Rio. In closed places, however, the mask is still mandatory.

Rodrigo Jaber, 41, came from Belém to enjoy New Year’s Eve in the capital of Rio de Janeiro and took the opportunity to take his third dose. “I knew they would be vaccinated here and decided to start 2022 immunized. We have to do our part and get vaccinated to get through this difficult situation.”

In Rio, 80.7% of the population completed the vaccination schedule. In Brazil, this index reaches 67.2%.

The population will be able to get vaccinated until 5 pm at the three posts set up by the city hall on Avenida Atlântica. To get vaccinated, you must present your identity document and CPF.

From 5:30 pm, urgent and emergency cases will be attended to at the units, which have a team of 28 doctors and 18 nurses.
