Coronavirus – EMA: Pfizer and Moderna vaccines safe during pregnancy

by

Covid-19 vaccines made with mRNA technology do not cause pregnancy complications in pregnant women and their babies, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) officially announced on Tuesday, after a detailed examination of numerous studies.

The test, which was based on tests that looked at about 65,000 pregnancies at different stages, found no signs of a higher risk of complications, miscarriages, premature births or serious side effects on fetuses from mRNA vaccines, the EMA said.

Pfizer and Moderna are currently supplying vaccines of this technology in the European Union.

Although the EMA acknowledged some data limitations, it emphasized that the results were consistent across all studies.

“The benefits of receiving Covid-19 mRNA vaccines during pregnancy outweigh the potential risks to expectant mothers and fetuses,” added the European Medicines Agency.

An in-house study also found that Covid-19 vaccines are equally effective in reducing the risk of hospitalization and death in pregnant and non-pregnant women.

Many EU countries have already approved the administration of Covid-19 vaccines to pregnant women, and EMA support for mRNA vaccines is likely to strengthen vaccination campaigns in smaller countries based on the scientific know-how of their regulators.

The single-dose vaccine, which combines a booster dose of Covid-19 with the experimental flu vaccine, will be available by autumn 2023, at least in some countries, based on the “best-case scenario,” the CEO said on Monday. company consultant, Stefan Bancell.
