All the indicators for SARS-CoV2 show a decrease in the last week, while the flu remains elevated according to the epidemiological report of the EODY.

According to the report regarding the coronavirus, 40 deaths and 34 intubations were recorded. Also, 10 new serious cases of influenza with hospitalization in ICU and 8 new deaths were recorded.

In summary for the week of 06/2024:

Influenza-like illness – ILI (regardless of pathogen)

✓ The number of influenza cases per 1,000 visits showed a decrease compared to
last week.
Severe Acute Respiratory Infection – SARI (regardless of pathogen)
✓ The number of SARI cases per 1,000 visits showed a small increase compared to the previous one
week.

SARS-CoV2 virus – COVID-19 infection

✓ The positivity in all the tested samples showed a small decrease compared to
last week.
✓ The number of admissions (n=446) showed a 40% decrease relative to the average weekly number
of admissions in the previous 4 weeks (n=747) and was lower than the number of admissions on
corresponding week of 2023 (n=854)
✓ The number of new intubations (n=7) showed a decrease compared to the average weekly number
new intubations during the previous 4 weeks
(n=20) and was lower than the number of
intubations in the corresponding week of 2023 (n=31).
✓ The number of hospitalized patients with COVID-19 infection intubated are 34.

40 deaths were recorded with a median age of 85 years (range 55-98 years). The number of deaths
showed a decrease compared to the average weekly number of deaths in the previous 4 weeks

(n=79) and was lower than the number of deaths in the corresponding week of 2023 (n=113).
The most frequent subvariant of BA.2 was JN.1 (68%) followed by EG.5 (21%) (last
available data).

✓ The surveillance of the viral load in municipal wastewater eshowed a reduction in SARS-CoV-2 virus circulation to 8

of the 9 areas checked.

Influenza virus

✓ Influenza positivity in the community (sentinel network) remains above 10% (seasonal start limit of
of influenza epidemic activity according to the ECDC) and showed an increase compared to the previous one
week. The positivity of SARI samples showed a drop compared to the previous week.
✓ They were recorded 10 new serious cases with hospitalization in ICU, while 8 new deaths were recorded from
laboratory confirmed influenza. 4 serious laboratory cases were reported retrospectively
of confirmed influenza with ICU hospitalization, one with an admission date within the week of 01/2024
and 3 with an admission date within the week of 05/2024, as well as one death with a date
death within the week of 05/2024.
✓ From week 40/2023 to week 06/2024 they were hospitalized 118 people with laboratories
confirmed influenza in the ICU and 45 deaths from laboratory-confirmed influenza were recorded.

✓ From week 40/2023 to week 06/2024 they have been standardized 397 strains of influenza

(derived from community Sentinel samples, from SARI surveillance samples and from hospital samples
samples outside surveillance networks), of which 392 (99%) were type A and 5 (1%) type B.
✓ In total, 370 type A strains have been subtyped in the two Influenza Reference Centers. The 344 (93%)
belonged to subtype A(H1)pdm09 and 26 (7%) to subtype A(H3).

Respiratory syncytial virus – RSV

✓ RSV positivity in the community showed a slight increase compared to the previous week.
