Increased continue to be the cases of coronavirus all over Greece with new imports to have increasing trends according to the weekly report of EODY. Alongside, 26 people lost their lives.
Specifically, in the period (July 8 – July 14, 2024) they were recorded 669 new entries, a number greatly increased from last week’s report. The average weekly number of new admissions over the previous four weeks was 464, and the number of admissions in the corresponding week in 2023 was 226.

Which areas are in “red”
In week 28/2024 an increasing trend was observed compared to week 27/2024 in the average weekly viral load of SARS-CoV-2 in municipal wastewater in seven out of ten (7/10) areas
which were checked by the National Wastewater Epidemiology Network (EDEL) of EODY. A decrease was observed in one (1/10) and a stabilization in two (2/10) of the ten regions of the EDL.
Pure upward trend observed in Ioannina (+200%), Larissa (+44%) and Alexandroupoli (+41%), while the increase was marginal in Xanthi (+29%), Thessaloniki (+24%), Attica (+ 15%) and in Chania (+14%). A marginal reduction in the viral load of municipal wastewater was observed in Heraklion (-29%). Stabilization was observed in Volos (+6%) and Patras (-8%).

SARS-CoV2 virus – Covid-19 infection
✓ Increased activity of the virus continues to be recorded, with an increasing trend in admissions for hospitalization. Vulnerable population groups (elderly and people with underlying diseases) are advised to scrupulously follow preventive measures against respiratory infections and to seek medical advice in time for symptoms, in order to provide timely treatment. At the same time, it is recommended to the general population, in the presence of respiratory infection symptoms, to limit contacts with people belonging to vulnerable groups.

✓ Surveillance of the viral load in municipal wastewater showed an increase in the circulation of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in seven of the ten areas tested.
Influenza virus
✓ No positive samples for influenza were found both in the community (PHC Sentinel surveillance network) and in hospitals (SARI surveillance network).
✓ No new serious case with hospitalization in ICU, nor new death from laboratory-confirmed influenza was recorded. A severe case of laboratory-confirmed influenza with an ICU hospitalization with an admission date within the week of 2024/27 was retrospectively reported.
✓ From week 40/2023 to week 28/2024, 149 people with laboratory-confirmed influenza were hospitalized in ICU and 71 deaths from laboratory-confirmed influenza were recorded.
✓ From week 40/2023 to week 28/2024, 1,064 influenza strains have been typed (derived from community Sentinel samples, from SARI surveillance samples and from hospital samples outside surveillance networks), of which 557 (52%) were type A and 507 (48%) type B. From week 10 onwards there is a prevalence of type B, both in the community (Sentinel PHC surveillance network) and in hospitals (SARI surveillance network).
✓ In total, 539 type A strains have been subtyped in the two Influenza Reference Centers. 494 (92%) belonged to subtype A(H1)pdm09 and 45 (8%) to subtype A(H3).
Respiratory syncytial virus – RSV
✓ No positive samples were found both in the community (PHC Sentinel surveillance network) and in hospitals (SARI surveillance network).
