The tracking for sheep and goat plague has been completed, said the regional governor of Thessaly, Dimitris Kouretas
The regional governor of Thessaly, Dimitris Kouretas, gave an update on an operation concerning the limitation and elimination of the plague in ruminants today during the meeting of the regional council.
Mr. Kouretas noted that “completed tracking for plague“, and expressed the optimism that at the end of the month Thessaly will come out of surveillance.
“We finished the surveillance today, it was a huge project with the participation of many veterinarians and employees, without them we would not have succeeded. Everything was done in record time, 15 days. There are seven foci. 400,000 sheep and goats are included in these and 1483 holdings. 33 farms were found positive and about 9,000 animals were killed and expected to reach 11,000 to 12,000 animals“, said the regional governor of Thessaly, describing the operation to deal with the disease.
At the same time, he noted that by decision of the Region of Thessaly, a decision was made to close the slaughterhouses, but also prohibited the exit of animals from each pen and the feeding of animal feed in each zone.
“EFET conducts checks on cheese factories and if necessary will impose severe fines. However, the cheese produced is in accordance with the specifications. The system worked very quickly into an efficient business that was the largest in the country in this field. Starting tomorrow, mass tracking will be done again in areas that have already been checked. At the end of August, Thessaly will come out of surveillance, if the situation continues like thissaid Mr. Kouretas, among others.
