The leadership of the Ministry of Health of our country on issues of common interest in the fields of Pharmaceutical Investment Policy, Digital Transformation, Medical Services as well as the possibilities of cooperation in the medical education programs of the two countries had a meeting with the Minister of Health of the Republic of Iraq.
Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis and Deputy Minister of Health Marios Themistokleous and Dimitris Vartzopoulos welcomed today, Wednesday, April 2, 2025, the Minister of Health of the Republic of Iraqi Prof Saleh mehdi al- Hasnawi and accompanying step.
Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis, among other things, stressed: “I welcomed today to the Ministry of Health the Minister of the Republic of Iraq. Saleh mehdi al- Hasnawi. We have discussed the cooperation between the two countries in the fields of drugs, hospital care, medical education, medical appliances, and we are generally considering how the two countries’ relations can be strengthened, especially in the health sector, where the people of Iraq seems to have many needs and Greece has many potential to offer. I would like to thank the minister for coming to Greece with his mission. During his long-term visit to our country, Minister Saleh Mehdi Al-Hasnawi is going to visit hospitals, factories and will meet with representatives of the medical and pharmaceutical community. Iraq is a country that in recent years has been able to stabilize as a real democracy, and I think Greece has only to gain closest links with this country. ”
Undersecretary of State for Health Marios Themistokleous said: “Today’s meeting with the Iraqi Health Minister is an important step in boosting our cooperation in critical areas, such as pharmaceutical policy, digital transformation and medical services. The exchange of know -how and the expansion of our synergies in both the public and private sectors will help improve health services in both countries. Our goal is to create a framework for cooperation that promotes innovation and enhance health investment. Greece has undertaken significant reforms in the National Health System and we look forward to a meaningful cooperation that will benefit our citizens. “.
Undersecretary of State for Health Dimitris Vartzopoulos said: “Today we had the pleasure of meeting the leadership of the Iraqi Ministry of Health, with which we had a constructive debate on the prospects of cooperation between our two countries in the health sector. We discussed issues related to the exchange of know -how, the development of innovative medical solutions, as well as the creation of common initiatives that will enhance access to quality health services. In my position I referred to the interventions we have made in the field of mental health in our country as well as the organizational changes included by the law on the completion of psychiatric reform. In addition, I mentioned the legislative initiative we are preparing to meet the challenges presented to people who need long -term nursing care and support“
The Minister of Health of the Republic of Iraq. Saleh Mehdi Al- Hasnawi, stated:
“First of all, thank you very much for welcoming us to the Ministry of Health with an excellent and generous reception. We are here to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the Iraqi Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Health of Greece. The bilateral relationship between our countries is very important for both countries. And our cooperation should be further strengthened in the political, economic and energy fields, as well as in other areas, such as health care and health business. As you know, two years ago, the political regime of our country changed from dictatorship to democracy. The transition was very difficult and tough. But in recent years there has been a big change in terms of security, economy and social aspect. There is also great growth in economy and energy. We are here to strengthen the bilateral relationship, not only between the Iraqi Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Health of Greece, but also in the private sector. And all the doors are open in my country for the private sector and for Greece to work with Iraqi partner“.
