Today, a spokesman for the European Commission, invited to give more details on the reason for the cancellation of Mr Kos’s trip, gave the following answer:
“After recent worrying developments, we must carefully redefine our commitment, while keeping open channels to discuss mutual interest issues – as Turkey is a strategic partner for us. The upcoming high -level dialogue is an important step in our reconnection with Turkey – for which the European Council has instructed us. We will continue to raise issues and concerns related to the rule of law. We want Turkey to be anchored in European values. “
Asked if the Commission has officially expressed concern to the Turkish authorities on the rule of law in Turkey, the Commission’s spokesman has avoided responding.
It is noted that despite developments in Turkey, the high -level dialogue with Ankara is not canceled at this stage. The high -level dialogue on the economy will normally take place at the end of the week, between Dobrovskis Commissioner and Turkish Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek, as well as the high -level dialogue for migration scheduled for the end of the month.
