Where it works and how do I participate

The service operates at the European Center to combat obesity in Cheeroand is provided free of charge for all of Greece through a simple online connection.

To participate in the service, parents should address the pediatrician for clinical examination. If the pediatrician finds the issue of obesity, he adds the referral form and gives it to the parents. The form is available at https://paxisarkiakaipaidi.gov.gr/ypiresies-ygeias/tilesymvoyleytiki/.

Parents receive the referral from their pediatrician, sign the consent form (integrated into the referral form) and contact the Tele Estate Service to plan the first online session. Contact is by e-mail at [email protected] or by phone at 210 95 49 470.

Based on childhood obesity data in Greece – with up to 37.5 % in children 2–14 years – this action is a necessary intervention on a complex issue of public health. It aims not only to improve individual habits but also to enhance the framework of the lifestyle of children.

Deputy Minister of Health Irene Agapidakis He said: “Childhood obesity is a complex and multifactorial problem that is not only about nutrition, but the lifestyle, the family and school environment, the mental health of children. Our goal is to stand by families, not with guilt, but with care, scientific guidance and practical tools. The new free telecommunications service is yet another act of substantial support and integration of all children into a healthier, active lifestyle. I would like to thank UNICEF and Harokopio University for the excellent collaboration. “

UNICEF’s diplomatic representative in Greece Gassan Halil He said: “The fight against childhood obesity is one of the priorities for children’s health in Greece and the new telecommunications service launched in the context of national action against childhood obesity is an important step for families to face it. In close cooperation with the Ministry of Health, we are confident that national action will have a significant positive impact on children’s lives in Greece and set new standards on their health and prosperity. “
