He spoke of a slow increase in cases observed in people over the age of 35 and especially over the age of 50, but also of a slow de-escalation in the hard indices.

Regarding the lifting of the measures, he noted that the Commission agreed not to lift the measures until the end of April. “It is not yet time to forget Covid,” he added.

Majorkinis: We have a decrease in cases but an increase in deaths

Professor of Infectious Diseases Gikas Majorkinis spoke about the reduction of new deaths and new diagnoses, both in Europe and in the rest of the world, despite the relaxation of measures for the coronavirus.

As he explained this is mainly due to the effectiveness of the vaccine however he further stressed that this is not enough and he needs to insist on the issue of vaccination

Regarding Greece, based on EODY data, the total number of new diagnoses decreased similarly, by 4%, however, the number of deaths showed a slight deterioration by 5%.

At the same time, there is an increase in the pressure of the Health System, he stressed, indicating that indicatively in the ICUs, the imports increased by 4% in the last weeks, while this percentage is estimated at 17-20% in terms of the imports in single beds.

In short, we are seeing a stabilization of the diaspora in our country, with a slightly more manageable increase in the pressure of the health system, he said and stressed that overall the “hard pandemic indicators” show an improved picture in Europe and the world.

“We are slowly learning to live with the virus,” he said, noting that in no case should the elderly and vulnerable groups underestimate it.

The professor stressed that for those who have completed their vaccination, the disease is fully managed and should be treated calmly.
