Brazil recorded 62 deaths from Covid and 8,902 cases of the disease, this Friday (22). With this, the country reaches 662,618 deaths and 30,334,301 registered cases of Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic.
Case and death data were updated for 22 states; seven have not recorded any deaths in the last 24 hours.
Moving averages of deaths and cases continue to fall. For the second time this week, the moving average of deaths was below 100, with 94, a 39% decrease from two weeks ago, and that of infections is 13,073, a decrease of 37%.
The statistical feature that seeks to smooth out variations in data, such as those that usually happen on weekends and holidays, is calculated by adding the deaths in the last seven days and dividing the result by seven.
The country data, collected up to 8 pm, are the result of collaboration between SheetUOL, O Estado de S. Paulo, Extra, O Globo and G1 to gather and disclose the numbers related to the new coronavirus pandemic.
The information is collected by the consortium of press vehicles daily with the state Health Departments.
Vaccination data against Covid-19, also collected by the consortium, was updated in 23 states.
Brazil registered 559,210 doses of vaccines against Covid-19 this Friday. According to data from the state health departments, there were 56,877 first doses, 112,701 second doses and 1,887 single doses. In addition, 387,745 booster doses (third and fourth doses added) were recorded.
In all, 177,001,577 people received at least the first dose of a vaccine against Covid in Brazil. There are already 163,419,514 people with two doses or one dose of the Janssen vaccine. As for booster doses, 84,700,549 were applied third and 180,632 fourth doses.
Thus, the country already has 84.6% of the population with the 1st dose and 76.07% of Brazilians with two doses or with one dose of the Janssen vaccine, and 39.43% of the population with vaccine booster.
The consortium also recorded the doses of vaccines given to children. The population aged 5 to 11 years partially immunized (with only the first dose of vaccine received) is 56.71%. In the same age group, 24.12% received the second dose or the single dose.
Considering the entire population over 5 years old, 88.43% received one dose and 81.65% received two doses or Janssen’s single dose vaccine.
Even those who received both doses or one dose of the Janssen vaccine should maintain basic care, such as wearing a mask and social distancing, say experts.
The initiative of the consortium of press vehicles occurred in response to the attitudes of the Jair Bolsonaro (PL) government, which threatened to withhold data, delayed newsletters about the disease and took information from the air, with the interruption of the disclosure of the totals of cases and deaths. In addition, the government has released conflicting data.
