Alyssa Jakubiak first encountered a DIY bug at the age of 19 after taking a “leap of confidence” since leaving home last year to save money on long-term mortgages.
“When I bought my first studio (which was a lot of work), I didn’t have the money to rebuild it,” he told me.
So I watched some DIY videos and learned how to tile, kitchen design, plumbing, shelving, and flooring.
After running out of budget and selling a year later, he continued to learn skills and acquire properties until he said, “I have reached my ultimate goal, the house of your dreams.”
Compliance Controller Alice currently lives in a mock Tudor-style house in West London, but remains creative with her own decorating and renovation ideas.
While looking for a new TV unit, he received a £1,000 quote from a carpenter to make something out of MDF. So Alice started working on another budget.
Alicia said: “I really wanted a sleek, slim TV sideboard so I bought three cabinets from eBay for £32.99 each and screwed them together.
“I also bought a pine top from B&Q for £35, glued and stained the top and added a brass knob I bought on eBay for £8.”
In total the project costs £141.97 and you can save big by calling the contractor.
Alice loves the new unit and adds:
“Plus, there’s plenty of storage space, and the remote works with the closet door.”
However, Alisa not only saved money, but also ordered furniture from work. Sharing the DIY work has given me a new perspective on life after losing my beloved pet.
She states, “I opened an Instagram account after a friend recommended it to me about 6 months ago.
“I recorded a DIY trip (to this new home) on Instagram, but after losing my dog at the age of 14, it became my new goal and focus.
“It was the only thing that got me up and over my pain.”
Alice’s advice to anyone looking to DIY is to bite a bullet.
“Anything is possible,” he said. “With a little research and a little dedication, you can do it if you care.”
