Are you getting an electric shock while trying to get in shape?
While it may sound like a new form of torture, EMS (Electrical Muscle Stimulation) is fast becoming a major trend in the fitness world, with more studios all over London.
EMS workouts target multiple muscle groups at once with electrical impulses and enhance every movement you make for the best total body workout.
Say that the traditional exercise is only a couple of times. With EMS, you can increase engagement and use more muscle at once to increase the intensity of your workout.
For all this, proponents say that 20 minutes of EMS training is equivalent to 90 minutes of high-intensity training.
So how to save time by going to the gym becomes even more difficult. Is it worth a try?
We tested EMS training at the Kensington-based studio E-Pulsive. This is one of the first gyms in London to showcase this radical new approach to health and fitness, founded by Eladio de León and Mario Caspers.
By combining traditional HIIT techniques with hard science and a busy schedule, an integrated approach to fitness simplifies everything from strength training to blemish relief.
The E-Pulsive session lasts about 20 minutes and uses high-intensity, high-interval training (HIIT).
I was scared (electric shock sounds pretty painful…) and didn’t know what to expect.
And to be honest, the first electrical pulse felt like a real shock. It’s exhausting, but you get used to it surprisingly quickly. The trainer will explain the movement and will not be afraid of the senses.
Each movement is carefully tuned to the rhythm of the electrical impulses to ensure the best results with every movement you make.
Hold each pose for about 20 seconds. This may sound easy, but it needs a lot of attention. Electricity makes even simple poses more difficult.
The first session to change the electrical pulse and the second session to change weather legumes.
Different styles of exercise are aimed at different things. Postures, strength, weight loss, etc. when the electrical pulse is off. The movement during the electrical impulse is not only to tighten and strengthen the skin, but also to tone it.
In sessions 3 and 4 I was really electric and tried to increase the electrical impulses for maximum results.
I felt exhausted and gave up each session, but the next day I was strong and fine. It is highly recommended to go to the cryotherapy chamber after each session to completely relax the muscles.
Eladio, the founder of E-Pulsive, recommends EMS training once a week in addition to regular training, or twice a week if you don’t have regular gym time.
When combined with a healthy lifestyle, he says, changes are noticeable after four sessions, with a 9% decrease in body fat and a 30% increase in fitness in 12 weeks.
If you want to try EMS training yourself, you can book private and partner sessions from £50. The initial consultation lasts a total of 45 minutes, with the trainer discussing lifestyle, goals and possible injuries, followed by a totally personalized 20-minute EMS training.
