(News Bulletin 247) – Rio Tinto and Japanese trader Marubeni Corporation have agreed a first sale as part of a new strategic collaboration agreement aimed at ensuring a sustainable and reliable supply of responsible aluminum products to Marubeni.

This agreement, the first of its kind in Japan and the Asia-Pacific region, aims to provide the downstream industry with a simple and integrated way to achieve objectives, such as reducing the carbon footprint, the disclosure life cycle analysis (LCA) and responsible sourcing.

Tolga Egrilmezer, head of sales and marketing at Rio Tinto, said: ‘Consumers want to know more about the products they buy and to be assured that they have been produced in a responsible and sustainable way. We can help our customers down the aluminum value chain to meet this growing demand.’

“Through this collaboration, Marubeni will contribute to the creation of a decarbonized society by supplying responsible aluminium,” adds Daisuke Tsuchiya, Chief Operating Officer of Marubeni’s Metals and Minerals Division.
