(News Bulletin 247) – Eni Sustainable Mobility and PBF Energy announced yesterday that they have entered into definitive agreements to partner in an equal joint venture, St. Bernard Renewables LLC (SBR), for the biorefinery currently under construction. construction on the premises of PBF’s Chalmette refinery in Louisiana (United States).
Eni will contribute a total capital of $835 million, plus up to an additional $50 million subject to reaching certain project milestones, and will provide expertise in biorefinery operations, supply and marketing.
PBF brings its industrial know-how to the United States and, as a contributor to the biorefinery, will continue to manage the execution of the project and serve as the operator once construction is complete.
The start-up of the St. Bernard Renewables biorefinery is expected in the first half of 2023 and the facility is currently targeted to have a processing capacity of approximately 1.1 million tonnes/year of feedstock.
It will mainly produce HVO diesel (‘renewable diesel’), with a production capacity of 306 million gallons per year.
