(News Bulletin 247) – ArcelorMittal and Kirchhoff Automotive, which develops and produces complex metallic and hybrid structures for bodywork and chassis, have signed a memorandum of understanding relating to the development of a low-carbon steel for cars and trucks.

The agreement covers a number of development areas and steel solutions, but its main objective is to strengthen collaboration between the two companies on sustainability issues.

This includes a project to develop and test the use of ArcelorMittal’s recycled and sustainably produced Usibor1500® XCarb® (which is made from recycled steel and 100% renewable electricity) in parts. high-strength materials that KIRCHHOFF Automotive supplies to major OEMs in Europe, Asia and North America.

The XCarb® product family will expand as the company invests in decarbonising the steelmaking process in Europe, in line with its goal of reducing CO2 emissions by 35% by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
