(News Bulletin 247) – Enel and clean nuclear technology company Newcleo announce that they have signed a cooperation agreement to work on Generation IV nuclear technology projects.

This partnership aims to provide a safe and stable source of energy, as well as to significantly reduce the volumes of radioactive waste.

In accordance with the agreement, Enel will collaborate with Newcleo by providing specialist expertise through the sharing of a number of qualified personnel from the company.

Newcleo has pledged to secure an option for Enel as the first investor in its first nuclear power plant, which it will build outside Italy.

“We look forward to supporting Newcleo in its challenging but promising roadmap to deliver zero-emission electricity in a safe, affordable and sustainable way,” said Francesco Starace, CEO of Enel.

The first step in Newcleo’s roadmap will be the design and construction of a first-of-its-kind 30 MWe leaded fast neutron (LFR) mini-reactor, which will be deployed in France by 2030.
