(News Bulletin 247) – Thales Alenia Space announced on Tuesday its intention to join the consortium responsible for developing the computing platform from the European program ‘Destination Earth’ (DestinE).
The joint venture between Thales (67%) and Leonardo (33%) will join forces with Britain’s Serco, the leader of the consortium selected by the European Space Agency (ESA), to develop the service platform, known as ‘ DESP’.
This cloud-based open system – which must be both user-friendly, flexible and secure – will provide decision support tools derived from ‘DestinE’ data, which will notably come from ESA satellites.
The objective of the ‘DestinE’ project is to develop a very precise digital model of the Earth to monitor and predict the interaction between natural phenomena and human activities, anticipate extreme episodes and adapt policies to climate challenges.
Thales Alenia Space will be responsible for the installation, deployment and operation of the orchestration platform, as well as all cybersecurity of the DESP system.
