(News Bulletin 247) – Apple on Monday unveiled its mixed reality headset, dubbed ‘Apple Vision Pro’, marking its foray into a new market in which it could revive interest.
The device – which will be marketed at a price of 3499 dollars at the beginning of next year – is presented as a ‘space’ computer equipped, among other things, with an ultra-high resolution display system distributed over two screens.
Its two-chip design aims to give the user the feeling ‘that every experience is happening before their eyes in real time’, the group explains.
On the occasion of the annual conference of the group’s developers in Cupertino (California), its general manager Tim Cook judged that it was “a new era for computing”.
A three-dimensional camera must thus allow users to immerse themselves in their photos or videos, but also to transform their living room into a personal cinema with a screen giving the impression of measuring 30 meters wide.
During the event, the Apple brand also presented a new 15-inch MacBook Air equipped with its in-house M2 chip, which will be available next week.
Apple also has new features for iOS 17, the iPhone’s operating system, which are meant to make the device more personal and intuitive.
Users will be able to read real-time transcriptions of voicemail messages left on their voicemail, while having the option of responding while someone is leaving a message for them.
The group has also announced some improvements to its AirPods headphones, ‘which shows that it is clearly listening to what developers and consumers have to say’, add Wedbush analysts.
The Apple action has however reacted weakly to these announcements on Monday on the New York Stock Exchange, ending on a decline of around 0.7%.
Investors seem to have taken advantage of the opportunity to take some profits on the stock, which has risen more than 38% since the start of the year.
