(News Bulletin 247) – Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Eni Managing Director Claudio Descalzi met today in Astana to discuss Eni’s current activities, projects, including a hybrid power plant renewable-gas in the Mangystau region.
Following the meeting, KazMunayGas and Eni announced a joint 250 MW gas-renewable energy hybrid power plant project in Zhanaozen, Mangystau region, in accordance with the agreement signed between the two companies.
This project, the first of its kind in the country, includes a solar power plant, a wind power plant and a gas power plant for the generation and supply of stable and low-carbon electricity to KMG subsidiaries in the region.
The hybrid model helps diversify and decarbonize the energy supply for oil and gas assets in the Mangystau region. In addition, it will contribute to the development of human capital in the renewable energy sector.
“This project marks a new step in increasing Eni’s renewable energy generation capacity, while supporting Kazakhstan’s decarbonization trajectory,” said Claudio Descalzi.
