(News Bulletin 247) – Airbus on Wednesday raised its forecast for the world civil aviation market over the next 20 years, which the group now estimates at more than 40,000 passenger and freight aircraft.
Its new forecast now stands at 40,850 aircraft deliveries for the period 2023-2042, a figure revised upwards from its previous estimate of 39,490 unveiled a year ago.
In its report, the aircraft manufacturer specifies that it expects average annual growth of 3.6% in global passenger traffic over the period, thanks to the strength of the Middle Eastern and Asian markets, led by India and China.
The freight market should grow at an annual rate of around 3.2%.
Commercial and cargo aviation combined, its forecast for single-aisle aircraft, operated on the short and medium-haul networks, stands at 32,630 units, which represents 80% of market needs.
As for larger-body aircraft, used on long-haul routes, Airbus’ demand forecast stands at 8,220 aircraft.
By 2042, the group says it expects a global fleet of 46,560 aircraft, doubling compared to the 22,880 aircraft that were in circulation in 2020.
