(News Bulletin 247) – The Belgian chemical group Solvay announced on Thursday that it would team up with the French Ascendance Flight Technologies and the Dutch Airborne to design innovative materials for sustainable aviation.
This strategic partnership should include the development of advanced composite materials, structural adhesives and polymers aimed at improving the performance, weight and durability of future aircraft.
The agreement also provides for the integration of Solvay products into Ascendance Flight Technologies platforms in order to minimize their carbon footprint and their impact on the environment.
Ascendance Flight Technologies, a Toulouse start-up created in 2018, is at the origin of a vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft project with hybrid-electric propulsion supposed to offer a low-carbon and silent alternative to the helicopter.
The company is also working on a hybrid-electric engine that mixes an electric source and a fuel in order to drastically reduce the carbon emissions of new generations of regional aircraft.
