(News Bulletin 247) – The Paris Stock Exchange started the week on the rise, but came up against the threshold of 8,200 points, in a session with sluggish volumes, in the absence of many investors this Monday. The CAC 40 gained 0.35% to 8,195.97 points this Monday evening.

The Paris Stock Exchange begins the week in good spirits, but in a market deserted by many investors who have left to head to the fields for Pentecost.

The CAC 40 closed slightly up 0.35% but refused the obstacle of 8,200 points for a few fractions of a percentage, and therefore ended its run at 8,195.97 points this Monday evening.

This rise, however, took place in low volumes, with only 1.81 billion euros exchanged.

The bustling Parisian market suffered from the absence of many operators, since several European stock exchanges such as that of Oslo are closed on Pentecost Monday. Not to mention that French investors may have taken leave on the same day, Pentecost Monday being a public holiday, even if many companies choose this day as a “solidarity day”.

In New York, the trend is positive with a Nasdaq index which set a new record at 16,807.72 points, pending the publication of Nvidia’s quarterly results on Wednesday evening after the close of the American markets.

The agenda will be sparse at the start of the week, but it will expand over the course of the week with the speeches of several members of the American Federal Reserve. These interventions will give some indications to investors looking for signals on the future intentions of the Fed regarding its monetary policy. On this subject, the American institution will publish its report of its last monetary policy meeting on Wednesday.

The next day, Thursday, several activity data for the month of May will be revealed in Europe but also in the United States.
