TOKYO (Reuters) – Honda and Nissan are expected to announce the start of talks on Monday to bring their businesses together, two sources with knowledge of the matter said, as the two Japanese automakers struggle to cope with industry developments.
According to sources, the two groups planned to bring together their boards of directors and then hold a joint press conference in which representatives of Mitsubishi Motors, Nissan’s partner, should also take part.
Nissan, of which the Renault group is the main shareholder, and Honda aim to complete their negotiations by next June, television channel TBS reported, citing a source. The new entity will be listed on the stock exchange while Honda and Nissan will be delisted in August 2026, according to the same source.
While the two manufacturers will explore the possibility of a merger, as Reuters reported last week, Honda is expected to name the leader and decide the identity of most of the members of the board of directors of the company. future holding company, public broadcaster NHK reported on Monday.
