(Reuters) – American Airlines resumed operations on Tuesday after suspending all U.S. flights for an hour, disrupting travel for thousands on Christmas Eve, one of the busiest periods. busiest of the year.
The airline said a technical issue with a supplier briefly affected its ability to get planes off the ground.
Earlier this year, carriers were hit by a global technology outage linked to Microsoft’s Azure platform and a software glitch from cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike.

Two years ago, Southwest Airlines experienced a holiday systems outage that resulted in the cancellation of 16,900 flights and stranded 2 million passengers. The company was ultimately fined $140 million, the largest penalty ever imposed for disrupting air traffic.
American Airlines operates thousands of flights daily to more than 350 destinations in more than 60 countries.
The US National Transportation Security Agency (TSA) estimates that around 40 million travelers will pass through its checkpoints during the holiday season.
