Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew: Tour begins in Thessaloniki and Mount Athos

The patriarchal tour in Northern Greece starts from Drama and Thessaloniki, while on Friday afternoon it will go to Mount Athos, where it will remain until Sunday. From Sunday afternoon until Wednesday, he will participate in festive events in the municipalities of Kalamaria and Thermaikos.

THE Ecumenical Patriarch will go from the airport of Chrysoupoli Kavala, by road, to the Holy Monastery of the Assumption of the Savior, to the Taxiarches of Drama (Sipsa) to perform a trishagio, shortly after eleven, in memory of the blessed metropolitan of Drama Pavlos. Subsequently, Mr. Bartholomew will go to Thessaloniki at noon, where at six and a half in the afternoon he will visit XANTH.

Tomorrow, Thursday, at 11, he will visit the Monastery of Vlatada in Ano Poli and in the afternoon he will greet and speak in the Ceremony Hall of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki the works of the theological conference organized in his honor.

On Friday morning, the Ecumenical Patriarch will visit YMATH and then will go to KEDAK (Praxitelous and Zaimi). Then, on the way to Mount Athos, he will stop in Nea Tenedos to visit an exhibition of relics from the island of Tenedos, inside the church of the Virgin.

At noon, at one o’clock, he will visit Nea Triglia, where he will be declared an honorary citizen of the municipality of Nea Propontida and then he will walk in the square in front of the municipal theater, which bears his honorary name. On Friday afternoon, the Ecumenical Patriarch will be in Ouranoupoli to go by boat to Mount Athos.

At 18.30 he will arrive in Daphne, while an hour later he will be officially welcomed by the representatives and abbots of the twenty monasteries in Karyes. There will be a eulogy at the Holy Temple of Protatos, a treat at the Holy Communal Building and dinner before leaving for the Holy Monastery of Iveron, where he will spend the night.

On Saturday, he will officiate early in the morning at the Divine Liturgy at the church of Panagia Portaitissa and then will visit the monasteries of Karakallos and Megisti Lavra, before returning to Karyes to dine with students and teachers at the Athoniada School.

On Sunday, Mr. Bartholomew will officiate at the Patriarchal Divine Liturgy in Protato and will be followed by the procession of the icon of Panagia Axion Esti. At noon on Sunday, the Ecumenical Patriarch will return to Thessaloniki to take part in the three-day festivities in the municipalities of Kalamaria and Thermaikos.

On Sunday, at seven in the afternoon, Mr. Bartholomew will be received with honors in front of the metropolis of Nea Krini and Kalamaria and then will be guided by the local authorities in an exhibition of mosaics and will attend a music event.

On Monday, the Ecumenical Patriarch will attend the foundation of a municipal park for the disabled, while at noon he will visit the 23rd primary school of Kalamaria and will be guided in a photo exhibition entitled “Kalamaria – 100 years of refuge”.

Special – among the other events planned during the three-day stay of the Ecumenical Patriarch in Kalamaria and the municipality of Thermaikos – will be the visit of Mr. Bartholomew in the historic “Disinfection Centers” of Kalamaria, which were a place of temporary reception, but also hardships and martyrdom for appeals from Asia Minor, as well as throwing a wreath at sea, while a meeting will follow with representatives of refugee associations.

On Tuesday, at the community store of New Passengers, the Ecumenical Patriarch will be declared an honorary citizen of Thermaikos.

Among the events planned in the municipality of Thermaikos stands out the boat tour in order for the Ecumenical Patriarch to see from the sea the lagoons of Angelochori and Epanomi, while there will be a tour of historic sites, machine guns and forts in the area and .

The tour of the Ecumenical Patriarch ends on Wednesday, with the performance of the Patriarchal Divine Liturgy at the Church of Panagia Faneromeni in Michaniona and the laying of a wreath at sea and a memorial prayer in memory of the refugees from Propontis and Eastern Thrace.
