In the unbelievable complaint that unconscious drivers in Thessaloniki they fill their reservoirs and then disappear without paying, proceeded her executive Association of Petrol Dealers of Thessaloniki (ENBETH), George Gavriilidis.
As he told ThessTodayalthough it is a timeless problem for the industry, the incidence has increased lately.
To have such an incident every day, “we are done”. Indicatively, the 100 euros that one can put in his vehicle in relation to the very low profit that we have now, is equal to a daily wage and for many even two “, noted Mr. Gavriilidis.
“Consumption compared to May 2021 has fallen by 30%. When there was parity and reasonable prices in the other obligations we did not face a particular problem. Now with electricity being expensive, as well as gas – but also many more basic products – then it reaches our industry in chains. “It is very likely that many padlocks will enter in the near future if the situation does not change”, said the ENVETH member.
“The industry is bleeding from the fuel smuggling circuits”
The potential impact on the gradual strangulation of the industry according to Mr. Gavriilidis is due to a significant extent to the fuel smuggling circuits.
“A ‘clean’ gas station that is honest, has to fight with the government ceiling, the big expenses, while it is also faced with the smuggling, from which it bleeds and because of it loses customers. “We understand that all this leads at some point to the complete disappearance of several businesses that are operated by family heads”, he pointed out.
It is characteristic that from time to time the Greek Police has dismantled falsified gasoline circuits, where through fictitious companies and fake shipping tickets they transported chemical solvents from Bulgaria to Greece, falsifying fuel at service stations. According to Mr. Gavriilidis, this action puts the specific stores in an advantageous position, as due to the dubious quality of fuel, they have the ability to significantly reduce the price of gasoline and gas, compared to the “clean” companies, which are called to keep up with the market and raise their price above 2.20 euros per liter.
“The main problem is the gas stations that sell inexplicably cheap. Every consumer can enter the website of the ministry and see the prices of the refinery. “If a gas station sells for less than six minutes – according to its profit – something” smells “, he noted, emphasizing that the rest of us are obliged to go to the government ceiling, which causes us another problem in the supply of fuel, with prices exceeding even 30%. “All of this is money and expensive.”
