Georgantas and Mitarakis at the “Koris Gefyri” Dam – The project is expected to be delivered within 2023

The “Koris Gefyri” Dam in Chios was visited today by the Ministers of Immigration & Asylum Notis Mitarakis and Rural Development & Food George Georgantas, in order to be informed about the resumption of work in the area.

Present was the governor of the North Aegean, Costas Moutzouris, the mayor of Chios Stamatis Karmantzis and the Secretary General of Union Resources and Infrastructure of the Ministry of Rural Development & Food, Dimitris Papagiannidis.

It should be noted that in mid-May, the Ministry of Development & Investment signed the necessary funding for the completion of the project and then the Ministry of Rural Development & Food ordered the contractor to restart immediately.

At the end of the visit, the Minister of Immigration & Asylum, Notis Mitarakis stated:

“As a government, we have committed this four years to finally complete the great projects of Chios. These projects that we have been discussing for a generation and every time something happened and did not go ahead, such as the airport, the Courthouse, the new customs at the port and the “Daughter Bridge“.

A project that many believed, that it will not get “forward” again. Many argued years ago that it was not being repaired. This government managed to do what SYRIZA could not, from 2015 to 2019, a lost five years for our island.

Within three years the study was done, the repairs that need to be done were found, the additional funding was found, the new contract was made, the construction site was “started” again and the project will be completed in 2023.

I want to thank George Georgantas, a friend of Chios I will say, who from the first moment he took over at the Ministry of Rural Development continued all the actions that had been done for “Koris Gefyri” and now this project can become a reality.

This four-year period shows a different Chios, with the infrastructure projects progressing, with the island VAT now secured for our Chios, with the immigration being dealt with. “We are looking forward to the crises with optimism in the coming years.”

The Minister of Rural Development & Food, George Georgantas, stressed in turn that the priority of the Ministry of Agriculture is the completion and operational utilization of irrigation projects that until now, for various reasons were stagnant.

“I am very happy to be in Chios and it is essentially the first of these stagnant projects that we managed and restarted through the institutionalized procedures provided, through the scientific crises that were taken into account, to create a safe and productive project. which will greatly help the primary sector “.

Mr. Georgantas noted the contribution of Messrs. Mitaraki and Tsakiri at the restart of the project. As Mr. Georgantas said “within 2023, a very safe and very useful project for Chios will be delivered”.
