Marina Silva confirmed her support for PT Fernando Haddad’s candidacy for state government in São Paulo. “The Network unanimously decided to support Haddad and that includes my vote,” the former environment minister told the blog.
The support was decided two weeks ago by the party and will be formalized this Saturday morning, when the Sustainability Network delivers its programmatic guidelines to the candidate. “They are the support bases of this support”, says Marina.
Asked about an eventual invitation to compose Haddad’s ticket, Marina says that this is only being discussed by the press, while the party prioritizes a return to parliament. “It’s a deliberation of the party and I’m narrowing down my decision; it’s not 100% taken.”
“There is a need to strengthen a bench committed to education, health, the environment, the Amazon, human rights, in short, the post-war constitution of Brazil that Bolsonaro makes against everything and everyone”, he says.
“I agree with what Haddad said in Roda Viva: fundamental now is to deepen the dialogue with the PSB to see if the popular democratic camp comes together here in São Paulo and the Network strives to have the best outcome for this”, she claims.
At the federal level – for which the Network released the support of militancy for Lula or Ciro’s candidacies – Marina maintains the position that she is open to talking with Lula. “The differences are of a political nature. In democracy we talk, even in a situation like the one that is posed today as a threat to democracy”, she says.
Asked if her candidacy for the presidency in previous elections proposed the third way, which is currently difficult to achieve, Marina says that the 19 million votes in 2010 and 22 million in 2014 signaled an alternative to polarization and a way of alternating power.
“Society signaled three times: in 2010, 2014 and 2013 with the demonstrations. When you manage to remove three layers that say: ‘look, please make changes, it’s here in the democratic field, the alternation of power is part of democracy’ and this is not heard, after removing the three layers, what emerged was the worst of the worst that was repressed.
