The following is the statement of the President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou:

With deep sadness and emotion I say goodbye to Marina Lambraki-Plaka, the archaeologist, art historian, professor, tireless worker for the preservation and promotion of Greek painting, the one who never stopped “dreaming realistically”. Thirty years at the helm of the most important museum in the country, the National Gallery, succeeding, through major exhibition events to enhance its popularity and create a stable core of visitors, he was happy, after continuous efforts, to see it reborn, modernized museologically and aesthetically, to be open to the public as it sought it throughout its long tenure: as a place of knowledge, spiritual uplift, aesthetic cultivation, deepening in the artistic event. Having dedicated her life to the promotion of Greek art and the emergence of its links and parallels with international currents, both as director of the National Gallery and with her rich scientific, literary and didactic work, Marina Lambraki-Plaka leaves rich legacy, but also a large gap. She often said that she is reconciled to the idea of oblivion, however her fertile presence, her passion, her energy, will not allow the dust of time to blur her indelible mark. Have a good trip, Marina “.
