The funeral of Marina Lambraki-Plaka will take place on Tuesday, June 21, at 12 noon, from the First Cemetery of Athens, as announced by the National Gallery.
Trisagio in memory of Marina Lambraki – Plaka was performed on Thursday morning in her hometown of Arkalochori from the Holy Diocese of Arkalochori, Kastelli and Viannos at the Holy Metropolitan Church of St. Andrew, Archbishop of Crete.

Marina Lambraki-Plaka, director of the National Gallery, passed away in the early hours of Monday, June 13, at the age of 83.
The municipal authority, bodies of the area, relatives of the deceased but also a large number of people attended the trisagion in memory of the ecumenical Arkalochoritissa, who honored Greece and Europe.
Resolution by the teachers of Gymnasium and Lyceum of Arkalochori:
“The Teachers’ Associations of Arkalochori High School and Arkalochori General Lyceum express their deepest sorrow for the unexpected death of the distinguished archaeologist and art historian and Director of the National Gallery, Marina Lambraki.
Marina Lambraki Plaka was born and raised in Arkalochori and was a student of the then newly created – on the initiative of the residents of Arkalochori – Primary High School of Arkalochori which was later divided into High School and Lyceum and became Public.
At this school she met the excellent philologist and later her husband, Dimitris Plakas, who was her mentor and, distinguishing her abilities, helped her find her way and study.
Marina Lambraki Plaka never forgot the school from which she started and always supported it in various ways, one of which was the institution of a cash prize for the successful student with the most points in the field of Humanities.
Her career in the field of Letters and Arts has been memorable and enviable. After her remarkable studies, she served in difficult and demanding places, Education at its highest level and Art, where she remained for a long time as the longest-lived and most successful Director of the National Gallery, succeeding in making the difficult good of art accessible to many.
What characterized her was her vision and passion for what she was doing and they left their indelible mark on her work.
