Thessaloniki: 8 months imprisonment for the driver who got off an 11-year-old bus because he was not wearing a mask

The accused driver of the bus claimed that there were about 30 people in the vehicle, and recommended to all passengers to wear a mask.

Eight months imprisonment with a 3-year suspension was imposed by the Autophorous Three-Member Misdemeanor Court of Thessaloniki on 58-year-old bus driver that got off the vehicle 11 years old boy because he was not wearing a mask.

The father of the 11-year-old claimed at the trial that the driver of the bus did not address his son personally, but advised all passengers that they should wear a mask, otherwise they would have to get off the bus.

He also explained before the Court that he did not want to take legal actionuntil the moment he called the KTEL for the incident and they answered “sarcastically”. He specifically said that the KTEL employee ironically urged him to file a lawsuit.

He also stressed that he just wanted to talk to the driver on the phone about the incident.

For his part accused bus driver claimed that there were about 30 people in the vehicle, and recommended that all passengers wear a mask. Then, he saw the 11-year-old covering his mouth and nose with his blouse and pointed out that it was not right.

In addition, he stressed at the seat of the Court that did not personally address the toddler, nor asked him to get off the bus. In addition, he explained that he did not see the 11-year-old get out of the vehicle.

The prosecutor suggested the guilt of the bus driver as -as he mentioned- he exposed the minor to danger, while he could not get him out of the vehicle and communicate in some way with his parents.
