An ominous prediction for the number of dead was made by the professor of pulmonology at the University of Crete, Nikos Tzanakis, who speaking on SKAI and the show “Kalimera”, noting that by Christmas the dead may reach or even exceed 20,000.

“For the next two weeks, maybe three, I estimate that we will continue with this number of dead. “I hope we do not see more than 100 times many times. The average is around 75-80, which means that by Christmas we will reach, maybe even exceed, the 20,000 dead”, he stated characteristically and added that the lower the vaccination coverage , especially in citizens over 60, the higher the morbidity. He also presented data by region, noting that Central Macedonia, which has a vaccination rate of 66% in those over 60, on November 20 recorded 1,800 deaths per million inhabitants compared to the 600 that Crete has. Athens also has a low death toll due to high vaccination coverage at older ages.

Regarding the new Omicron mutation, the professor of Pulmonology, stressed that it is a development that should concern health experts and organizations, describing as unjustified the panic that has arisen in the ordinary world, in the markets and in the economies of countries. “We do not yet know what it hides, but it should concern the health authorities and the governments that should take action, especially at the airports, to examine everyone who enters from these countries, so that this mutation is really special. We do not know if it is more pathogenic and more deadly and if it is covered by vaccines. That may not be the case, it may be milder. “People should deal with the Delta executive who threshes in Greece”, he stressed.
