Podcast: how Ricardo Salles’ anti-environmental agenda continues with successor in the ministry

by

After a year of management, the current Minister of the Environment, Joaquim Leite, already accumulates worse numbers than his predecessor, Ricardo Salles – who was the symbol of the crises that the Jair Bolsonaro (PL) government was facing on the environmental agenda.

Leite’s more discreet profile managed to soften the negative news for the government in this area, but, in practice, maintained the dismantling agenda led by Bolsonaro. In the first six months of this year, the Amazon had almost 8 thousand fires detected by the satellites of the National Institute for Space Research. This is an increase of 16% compared to the same period in 2021, when Salles was still a minister.

In this Tuesday’s episode (5), Café da Manhã talks with reporter Ana Carolina Amaral. She details how Joaquim Leite maintained the practices of Ricardo Salles and allowed the advance of devastation —despite the more restrained profile to circumvent image crises.
