The former PASOK minister has died George Daskalakis.

In a statement by PASOK – Movement for Change, it is underlined: “It is with pain that we say goodbye to the long-time member of parliament and former minister of the PASOK governments, Giorgos Daskalakis.

A founding member of the Movement and a close associate of Andreas Papandreou, Giorgos Daskalakis tirelessly served PASOK and national interests.

He took the lead when, in 1993, as Deputy Minister of the Interior, he instituted the Honorable Prefectural Self-Government, while History wrote his name as a rapporteur in the Parliament of the Law that established May 19 as a commemoration day of the Pontic Greek Genocide.

They were actively present in the struggle against the Junta and always in the vanguard of social struggles. His political path and morals have always been an example and a source of inspiration.

Heartfelt condolences to his family.”
