Recommendations from the Attica Region for the upcoming heat wave

Strong recommendations to citizens to take all the necessary self-protection measures, during the impending heat wave that will hit Attica, the Region of Attica addresses, inviting them, at the same time, to go to its website and be informed about the air-conditioned spaces that operate in all municipalities, based on the information that the independent Civil Protection Directorate has (email: [email protected]), from them.

The governor of Attica, G. Patoulis, on the occasion of the high temperatures, calls on all citizens to take self-protection measures and the municipalities to immediately inform the Civil Protection service of the Region by email: [email protected], about any changes in the air-conditioned areas .

“The Civil Protection of the Region works closely with the municipalities and all the involved bodies to implement the necessary measures, with the aim of more effective protection of the citizens” he points out.

Precautions in cases of high temperatures

Citizens during the period of high temperatures and heatwaves should be aware of the following basic self-protection instructions:

* Stay in air-conditioned rooms.

* Dress light and comfortable with light-colored clothes made of porous material to facilitate the ventilation of the body and the evaporation of sweat.

* Use of a hat made of material that allows ventilation of the head.

* Use of black or dark sunglasses with lenses that protect against solar radiation.

* Avoid exposure to the sun, especially for infants and the elderly.

* Avoiding heavy physical work.

* Avoiding long-hour journeys with means of transport that do not have air conditioning.

* Many lukewarm showers during the day and applying cool compresses to the head and neck.

* Small and light meals, low in fat, with an emphasis on fruit and vegetables.

* Drinking plenty of fluids (water and fruit juices), especially by infants and the elderly, and avoiding alcohol.

* People suffering from chronic diseases should consult their treating physician, from whom they will receive additional instructions depending on their condition, as well as instructions on the possible change in the dosage of their medication.

* The elderly should not be left alone, but someone should be provided for their daily care.

* The workplaces must have air conditioners or simple fans, preferably ceiling fans, and in any case natural ventilation of the premises. The same applies to institutions that treat newborns, infants, children, the elderly and people with special needs.
