The Asproparis is a critically endangered species in Greece, with only five remaining pairs, all of which are located in the Thrace region.
In preventive removal of two chicks of the rare Asproparis species from their nest to forest of Dadia, the Management Unit of the Evros Delta and Dadia National Parks of the O.F.Y.PE.K.A. in collaboration with the environmental organization WWF Greece, which is a partner in the LIFE16 program with the aim of preserving this endangered species.
The chicks have been ringed and are being kept at the Unit’s premises and the process for their reintegration will be accelerated after the Fire Service declares the end of the fire.

The Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy Giorgos Amyras stated:
“I would like to thank the workers of the Dadia Management Unit, the WWF scientists and all the volunteers, loggers and forest workers of Evros who gave their best to protect the precious biodiversity treasure of the protected forest of Dadia. A wildlife first aid station has already been installed in the area by “ANIMA”, “ARION”, the AUTH Veterinary School, “Action for Wildlife” and volunteer veterinarians. As soon as the Fire Service allows it, teams of volunteers and veterinarians will sweep the forest to help any injured animals. The A1 zone, i.e. the hard core of the forest with the black vulture colonies, has not been affected by the fire.
