“This sector is very promising, with promising prospects for our children, as many specialties are at the top of the professional demand in Greece” states the Minister of Education
The data provided by the analysis of the bases for admission to higher education are numerous and are evaluated by the Ministry of Education. As the Minister of Education points out in her exclusive statement to APE-MBE Niki Kerameosamong what is evaluated as the most important is “the intense interest of the candidates for Vocational Education and Training”.
“This sector is very promising, with promising prospects for our children, as many specialties are at the top of the professional demand in Greece today, such as e.g. the web designers. In government we strongly believe in Vocational Education and Training, which offers more options for our children. The fact that 1 in 4 who applied for Public IEK was in a different region from the one he lives in, they further emphasize the alternative route offered by the Public IEK” notes Mrs. Kerameos.
The Minister of Education also underlines that “next September they will be given 10,000 additional places for registration in the DIEKin addition to the 13,472 that were already occupied by the successful ones through parallel computing”.
According to the data of the Ministry of Education for the Public IEK, the total number of candidates with a finalized parallel computer program amounted to 20,432, of which 18,812 candidates are high school graduates of the year 2021-2022 and 1,620 are graduates of previous years. In relation to 2021, the admission rate to Public IEK increased to 65.9%.
Family planning
In her statement to APE-MPE, the Minister of Education states that every effort was made to announce the bases earlier so that families have more time at their disposal in view of planning for the new year.
“Our goal was to put an end to the anxiety of the candidates as soon as possible and also to help the family in their optimal planning. The success of this project is credited to the workers in the competent departments of the ministry, who with their tireless efforts, managed to issue the final results a month earlier and to our excellent cooperation with the co-competent ministries” notes Mrs. Kerameos.

The general picture
Bases were down in most fields. In particular, a drop in admission bases was recorded in the law and polytechnic schools, while an increase was noted in the economic schools.
The assessment of the analysts is that the large drop in the schools of the 1st field (law, pedagogy, etc.) is due to the reduced number of candidates. In contrast, economics schools seem to attract the most interest from applicants, which is why there has been an increase.
As far as the vacancies are concerned, their relatively high number is attributed to the decision of the central universities to choose the highest possible coefficient with which they set the minimum admission bases with the aim of reducing the number of admissions.
