The “Stationary Auditors” of OASTH started working today, Wednesday, based on the planning, with the aim of dealing with ticket evasion on the buses of Thessaloniki. Early in the morning, the inspectors are at IKEA East Station and the New Railway Station, where, wearing jackets and jockeys with the Organization’s insignia, they ask passengers to validate their ticket or show the card of unlimited travel or free travel documents. .
Another group of “Stationary Controllers”, also wearing jackets and jockeys with the insignia of the Organization, board the buses and remain on them throughout the journey, asking the passengers boarding from the intermediate stops to validate a ticket. At the same time, the surprise checks by fare controllers in conventional attire continue with greater density.
“The goal of OASTH is not the imposition of fines, but the increase of ticket validations by passengers. “Urban transport is a public good and that is why we must safeguard its proper use,” said Christos Hatzigeorgiou, director of Revenue Assurance of the Thessaloniki Urban Transport Organization (OASTH). last August, while the team of “Stationary Auditors” was created. All fare controllers, not only the young but also the old, attended training seminars in relation to their duties and how to perform them, as clarified in today’s announcement of OASTH.
The control of fines is gradually moving to the digital age and will gradually be done electronically, using an application on “smart” mobile phones.
It is reminded that the fine for passengers who travel without fare is sixty times the price of a regular or reduced – if they are entitled to – ticket, ie 54 or 27 euros. The payment of the fine must be made within 60 days, otherwise it is increased fivefold and is collected by the competent Tax Office, as public revenue.
The payment of the fine is made either on the spot, at the fare controller, or within 60 days at the OASTH box office (90 Alexandrou Papanastasiou, 3rd floor, from Monday to Friday 7.30 in the morning at 2.30 in the afternoon) or, more easily, using e-banking .
