Almost 300 forest fires broke out in the last week in our country, with the representative of the Fire Department, fire chief Raphaela Jima pointing out the important problem that arises due to the gross plots.

“Good evening from the Fire Department operations center.
In the last week, the Fire Brigade was called to intervene in 756 urban fires, 472 relief services and 297 forest fires, while in the last 24 hours there were 41 forest fires.
The most serious of these occurred in the regions of Attica, Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, Crete, Western and Central Greece as well as the Peloponnese.
The forest fires that occurred in the forest of Dadia of Evros and in Valia Kalda of Grevena have been controlled and strong firefighting forces remain to protect them.
The fire that broke out today at 13:45 in a forest area in Schino, Messinia, was brought under control in a period of 2 hours. At 14:38 a message was issued by 112 for an organized preventive evacuation of the residents of Mesochori in a safe direction. With the coordinated efforts of all forces, the fire did not threaten the settlement. They continue to operate 94 firefighters with 5 teams of walking departments and 17 vehicles. 14 Finnish firefighters who are in our country as part of the European Civil Protection Mechanism’s Firefighter pre-installation program are also working on the extinguishing project. For aerial firefighting, 4 aircraft and 2 helicopters have been allocated and are operating. Support is provided by volunteer fire brigades of the Hellenic Republic of Greece. and local government aqueducts.
At 15:18 a fire broke out in a forest area near the Kyparissias – Pyrgos National Road at the height of the Alpheios bridge and 34 firefighters with a group of pedestrians and 9 vehicles are operating, while 2 aircraft and 1 helicopter are operating from the air. Subsidy is provided by water carriers of the local government.
The fire that broke out at 15:20 in a forest area in Kalyvia Gytheiou was contained within an hour of its start and 27 firefighters with a group of pedestrians and 9 vehicles are working while 2 aircraft are working from the air. Subsidy is provided by water carriers of the local government.
The fire that broke out in low vegetation within a plot of land in the area of Sofos Aspropyrgos at 15:42 was contained immediately and 30 firefighters with 13 vehicles continue to work.
We remind you that a large number of fires have as their starting point gross plots of land. In any case, the owners are obliged to clean them while simultaneously taking all the prescribed fire safety measures.
Since the start of the anti-arson period until today, 120 arrests have been made, of which 52 cases concern arrests for the crime of arson. It turns out that, of this total of 52 people, 32 were arrested for arson with intent and 20 for arson by negligence.
At the same time, during extensive checks, throughout the territory, since May 1, 349 administrative fines have been imposed, mainly for non-observance of fire safety measures.
For tomorrow Thursday, a very high risk of fire is expected in Attica, Evia, Samos, Ikaria, Lesvos, Chios and Psara.
In these areas, the preventive traffic ban measure is applied in national forests, forests and vulnerable areas.
In the coming days, all of us will have to remain especially careful, given the high temperatures and the increased intensity of the winds that are expected to prevail in various regions of our country.
